The situation

What we did

The outcome

The situation

What we did

We conducted three structured family conversations over several months. Each conversation produced a short written record. From these, we built a succession plan describing who would manage which aspects of the plantation, how income would flow during the transition, and how disputes would be addressed. The plan was circulated as a draft for family comment before it was finalised.

The outcome

The family arrived at an arrangement that all four members signed off on. The plantation continues to operate. The annual review in the following year noted minor adjustments to reflect a change in one heir's circumstances — a change that was handled without difficulty because the written plan existed as a reference.

Fourteen of the seventeen holdings have now been brought into a clear documented structure. The family has a written record of what exists and how it will pass. The remaining three are being addressed in order of priority, again at a pace the family has set.
